Valletta, seaport and capital of Malta (one of the smallest capital cities in Europe), on the northeast coast of the island of Malta. The center of the city is built on the promontory of Mount Sceberras that runs like a tongue into the middle of a bay, which it thus divides into two harbours, Grand Harbour to the east and Marsamxett Harbour to the west. Located on the other side of the bay of Sliema, it is easily accessible on a five-minute ferry ride and about 20 minutes by car.
